Avalokitesvara, or in Tibetan Chenrezi, is the "Lord Who Looks Upon All Things" He is also known as Mahakaruna, or "Great Compassion," for he represents the embodiment of total compassion. His thousand eyes show his awareness of all the circumstances of living beings, while his thousand arms show his ability to actually work to make things better. His nine heads, which face all realities are crowned by the head of Amitabha, "Limitless Light," indicating that an enlightened awareness that knows no bounds is at the height of the widsom and compassion he stands for.
