Macig Labdronma, the most reknowned woman in Tibetan spiritual history could just as easlily be classified as a Mahasiddha. Originally the spriritual consort of Ma Lotsawa, the great translator she later studied with the the great Indian adept Padampa Sangye and it is from the union of their realization that the Shiche/Chod lineage originates. The rituals and liturgies involving the thighbone trumpet and drum developed by Macig were actually practiced and diseminated in India in her own lifetime and are still some of the most popular practices in all the Tibetan spiritual traditions.
